Bobby
Vee is often lumped in with post-Elvis, pre-Beatles
teen idols like Fabian and Frankie Avalon. Not fair,
because Vee had rock 'n' roll credentials the others
didn't (he worked with both the Crickets and the Ventures),
and he could really sing. That said, Merry
Christmas From Bobby Vee (1962) is nothing to write
home about - it's a simple, charming record whose strongest recommendation is that it includes
four original Christmas songs - a rare thing in any era. Merry
Christmas was issued briefly on CD in 1992 with
one bonus track.
