IRS Records was a truly eclectic, independent label
that was eventually subsumed and obliterated by the
majors. In the eighties, however, they were a paragon
of indie virtue. The generally lighthearted songs
on Just
In Time For Christmas (1990) include several by well-known artists (including
Jules Shear's short-lived band the Reckless Sleepers) but
were mostly waxed by long-forgotten also-rans, among
them the sassy Rebel Pebbles. For fans of what we used
to call "modern rock," Just
In Time For Christmas is strongly recommended. For
others, three of the best songs show up on Rhino's New
Wave Xmas.
